I had a few questions and support got back to me quickly. One reply did take a little longer than the others, but overall, the communication was good and really easy to understand.

The review system just feels all over the place. Sometimes reviews disappear, other times they get accepted for no clear reason, and support didn’t really give me a straight answer. Like I said, it’s hard to trust the site when the main system for reviews feels broken. Like I said, I just want it to be consistent.

I only stayed for a short time, so I can’t say if this is how it always is, but my experience was kind of mixed. The family was friendly and welcoming, which I appreciated. The meals, though, were a bit hit or miss — some days they were totally fine, and other days it was more like bread or leftovers. It wasn’t awful or anything, I just wish the food situation had been explained a little more clearly before I arrived.

I wasn’t totally sure what to expect at first, but the profiles matched the place well. There weren’t any weird surprises or anything, which I appreciated.

I’ve used workaway twice now, and both times the cultural exchange was really nice. I stayed with local families and got to learn about their food, routines, and just the way they do this and that day to day. Some hosts can be a bit slow to reply, and plans might change here and there, but overall it felt genuine and totally worth it.

Well... I’ve used Workaway a few times now, and overall it’s been a good experience. I did have one host cancel on me last minute, which was definitely not ideal, but the site made it easy enough to reach out to other hosts. I ended up finding another place within a couple of days. I do wish cancellations were shown more clearly on host profiles, but aside from that, it’s been reliable enough for me. 4 stars.

I had a bit of a stressful situation where a host and I had already agreed on dates, but then they basically stopped replying, so I wasn’t really sure what the next step was supposed to be. I didn’t want to overreact, but I also didn’t want to just sit there waiting forever because it affected my plans. I contacted Workaway support, and they got back to me after a couple of days. It wasn’t super fast, so if you’re in a hurry it can feel a little frustrating, but once they replied, they explained what I should do and what the process looked like in a clear way. They also followed up, which I appreciated because it made me feel like the issue wasn’t just being ignored. In the end, the situation got sorted out and the dispute handling felt fair overall. I do think faster response times would make the experience better, but I was happy with how it was handled once support got involved. 4 stars from me.

I tried using the website it was way more confusing than it needed to be. Nothing felt easy to find, and I kept having to slow down and figure out where to click next. It’s frustrating when a site basically forces you to be patient just to get simple things done...

Then suddenly, with others, it was like, wait, why am I working way more than we agreed? Definitely ask very clearly about expectations before you go. Overall it’s not a bad option, but it really depends on the host you choose

I really like the idea of workaway, and maybe I just had bad timing when I was looking, but the search and filters were frustrating. I put in my dates, location, and the type of help I was interested in, and still got a bunch of listings that didn’t match or weren’t actually available. The sorting also felt kind of random, which made it take way longer than it should to find a decent host. It’s not unusable, just more annoying than I expected.

workaway is okay overall. Like, there are definitely a good number of hosts, especially in Western Europe, and I also saw quite a few options in parts of Asia. But then I’d check some smaller countries or more rural areas and suddenly there was barely anything, or the listings looked super old. So it kind of depends. If you’re flexible about where you want to go, it can still be really helpful. Just don’t go in expecting the same amount of choices everywhere. It’s not bad, just not amazing either.

I signed up for Workaway thinking it would feel a bit safer, but the scam prevention felt shockingly weak. A few profiles looked totally normal at first, and then suddenly things got weird once they tried moving the conversation off the site. Big red flags everywhere. I reported it, but it kind of felt like my warning just disappeared into the void. Maybe other people have had better luck, but in my experience, they really need stronger checks and faster alerts before someone ends up in a nightmare situation. I’m definitely not rushing back anytime soon.

I like the idea behind the app and I’ve found it helpful when it’s working, but in my experience it freezes every now and then. It’s not constant, but it can be frustrating when I’m in the middle of using it.

I didn’t expect the accommodation to be this nice. The room was clean, the bed was really comfortable, and the host made sure I had everything I needed. It felt simple but super cozy, almost like staying with a friend. I had a great experience and would definitely use Workaway again.
